I saw a picture of a 280ZX on FB recently, which can only mean one thing: excruciating envy, endless want.

I know it’s pretty much a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! but worse. I know it’s probably the ultimate expression of the the decline that took place after the 240Z, maybe the slowest of all the Zs (even in turbo form). I know these things and I don’t care, it’s cool . It might even be cooler for these reasons, in the same way that a stupid fat FWD Eldorado with 45hp from an 8 liter engine is cool. Except I bet it’s a damn sight more fun than any El-D. I think they also came with power windows and cruise control and all that goodness: not shabby for the late 70s.

I had one briefly in college (turbo, so unfortunately automatic) and it’s been in my dads garage ever since. I want that car back so much.

I’ve mentioned it a few times! No SR20 unless my dad has some.

It was sort of funny, I remember comparing the specs on the Abarth to my 280ZX and thinking they were (on paper) pretty similar. That early 80s turbo lag tho...

For US spec, I believe so. Never looked into imports though - now I’m curious.

Wikipedia says America did get a manual turbo, just not for the first turbo year of 1981. Germany may also have gotten it, but apparently most of Europe didn’t get the turbo at all, as well as Australia and Japan.

Australia never gets the turbo :(
